Trellis and support structures
A cattle panel, a bamboo tripod or a string trellis. Any of them carries a climbing vine, so no plant has to.
- Carries
- a climbing vine, and any load a garden puts on it
- Cost
- ~$10–$40
- Lasts
- 5–20 years, reused season after season
Plantings that use it
- Grape arbor
- Kiwi arbor
- Melon Sisters (small bed)
- Sweet-potato milpa (small bed)
- Three Sisters (small bed)
Put it along the north edge of the bed (the south edge below the equator), so its shadow falls outside the growing area. Put it up when you plant, before the vine needs it.
