Can I still sow this? Days left before your first freeze

Type your ZIP code. It counts the days from today to your first fall freeze — the odds, from the nearest NOAA station — and sorts the crops by whether they can still finish if you sow now: which beat even an early freeze, which are a gamble, and which have run out of season.

Nothing is sent anywhere. The lookup runs on your device against a table of NOAA records, offline once the page has loaded.

Why the fast end of the range, and why the 1-in-10 date

Every crop matures across a span, not on a day: a radish in 22 to 30 days, a butternut in 90 to 110. This tool counts the FAST end plus a week of slack, because that is the honest best case for a late sowing — good soil, a warm autumn, no setback. It measures that against your first freeze, which is itself a distribution: half of years freeze by the median date, but 1 year in 10 the freeze comes earlier. A crop that only clears the median loses to an early freeze in some years, so the safe deadline is the 1-in-10 date, and the first group clears even that.

What this tool will not do

It will not call a weather service, invent a maturity for a crop the corpus does not record one for, or promise a harvest. Days-to-maturity shift with soil, weather and variety; a first-freeze date is odds, not a calendar entry. It is a timing guide built from records, and it says which crops are worth the gamble rather than telling you one will succeed.
