Chosen for the kitchen. Four vegetables you plant once and cut from for years - asparagus, rhubarb, sorrel and lovage. Nothing here feeds or guards another; they are together for one plain reason, that they are all perennial and want a bed of their own. Give them a permanent corner, out of the yearly dig-and- replant that would tear their roots up, and they will come back on their own every spring.
At least 3 m²32.3 ft². A bed smaller than that does not get this guild quietly substituted for something else — the planner greys it out, says why, and offers the nearest adaptation that does fit.
